Name:Jamison Brett Kingsley Dodger
Age: 25
Appearance: Here’s a picture!
Background: Link to a summary of his world and history.
CRAU: Dodger is coming in with memories from The Sphere. He is largely the same (although he has stopped caring about death, after dying twice with no apparent consequences) but has some fond memories of his CR, including an undying loyalty and huge crush for a certain norse king. His canon memories are stronger than his Sphere memories, since he’s been back in his home world for a while in between.
Personality: By all accounts, including his own, Dodger is a horrible person. He is selfish and anti-social at best, and at worst is a parasitic lunatic who represents more danger to those he tries to protect than whatever he protects them from. Dodger likes to characterize himself as a guard dog, which isn’t inaccurate; he behaves more like a feral animal than a functional human, and relies entirely on outside forces to guide his morality.
Dodger calls himself an objectivist, but it's basically an excuse to be a prick. When making decisions, he takes care to make deals that are nearly equal, but slightly tipped in his favor. Once he starts to care about someone they may factor into his choices, but he doesn’t do things for their good. He does things so that they will keep caring about him.
He is severely mentally ill, and expects those around him to cater to his mental states or else considers them complicit in whatever damage he causes (“this building wouldn’t be on fire if you had stopped me”, “you made me angry so of course I shot you”, etc). Having grown up attached to abusive people who would take advantage of this, he gets easily frustrated without someone to tell him what to do and what is right and wrong. This also gets expressed by getting himself injured on purpose for sympathy, or obsessively stalking people he feels attached to and demanding their attention.
Dodger has a lot of trouble understanding and relating to others. He tends to have particular trouble understanding why someone would be upset about an emotional trauma, if they’re physically fine. Sexual advances are easy for him but affection is extremely difficult, and he tends to come off as blunt and harsh even when doing his best to be friendly.
If one is willing to take a risk, Dodger can make a good ally. He isn't wise, but he is intelligent, and all that time working for strategists has definitely rubbed off on him. If he decides that someone’s life matters, he will do everything in his power to keep them alive - although they will probably need to go to the hospital afterward. That being said, though, Dodger is very open about his flighty loyalty. Whether his reward is money or just approval, he’ll take his best offer and roll with it until something new tickles his fancy. And it would be a shame to rely on him if you can’t keep his interest.
It is possible for Dodger to form genuine connections with people who understand him, or are at least willing to work with him, but these are decidedly rare. Dodger can potentially be gentle, playful and extremely caring. He’s inexperienced with normal socialization, but if someone makes enough of an impact on him, he really does do his best to return the favor. But… that doesn’t mean they can convince him to change his habits when they aren’t around. In practice, even with the best of intentions, he will end up abusing and lying to his closest friends and lovers.
Above all else, Dodger’s identity as a slave (in the Ayn Rand sense) is extremely important to him. He believes wholeheartedly that he is worthless without someone else taking control of him, and that anything bad that happens to him or those around him is a direct result of not being controlled hard enough. He has created a worldview for himself in which anyone who sees the good in him is delusional, and spending too long without a master will lead directly to his death. This makes him flounder when urged to improve - being a murderous psychopath is safe territory, and being a decent human being is new and scary. He is deeply afraid of a normal life, because it is so far beyond his experiences that he does not feel like he would be himself anymore.
Weaknesses/Temptations: Honestly, Dodger is insanely easy to lead down a path of self-destruction. He has very little motivation to improve as a person, and already believes he’s past the point of redemption. He’s a very indulgent person with little to no dignity, which means that once he finds something he wants he’ll do literally anything to acquire it, no matter how humiliating or destructive. He’s also highly motivated by praise, and if he decides to be loyal to someone he will do anything they want - up to and including getting himself killed for their goals.
Dodger will happily try new substances just to see what they’re like, sleep with anything that moves, and start a fight with anyone who looks at him wrong. Even if someone tries to stop him, he will probably lash out for being 'pushed around'.
He is also a naturally violent person; he has his own excuses for how he ended up this way, but the bottom line is that he enjoys seeing fear in others, and he will seek it out whenever possible. He’s perfectly willing to harm an innocent person for that rush, but he has a real fervor for going after people he believes deserve to be hurt. If given the chance to punish other sinners, he’ll likely go above and beyond expectations, just because he wants to.
Sins: I’m just gonna link a list, there’s a lot.
Powers/Abilities:
- Teleportation: He can teleport up to 10 feet in any direction, as long as he has the energy and some room to land. This can be stacked, but he gets easily tired out by teleportation and needs a breather if he goes too far too quickly. He can move through walls during teleportation, and as time effectively slows to a halt for him while teleporting he can place himself with extreme accuracy or move objects in his path. Teleportation causes a loud popping noise, as well as a flash of sparks moving vaguely in the direction he went in, so it isn't particularly stealthy.
- Fire: This includes manipulation of his body temperature, fire resistance, lighting his fingertips on fire or throwing fireballs roughly the size of a fist. While he can set other parts of his body on fire, that's not particularly useful and he's unlikely to. Mostly, he uses it to light cigarettes. This particular power is controlled heavily by his mood; the angrier he is, the more powerful and less accurate his fire becomes.
- Invisibility: Usually as a fear response, he can turn invisible at will and it takes relatively little energy. However, it doesn't stop him from making noise and all of his other powers draw attention to him while invisible. His clothing turns invisible with him, as does anything he’s holding, but his fire does not. Generally it works on Rule of Cool (ie, plot convenience).
- Strength: He's strong enough to lift an average-sized car in one hand, and would probably be able to lift a truck with a bit of effort. He has finely tuned control over this to avoid hurting others unless he wants to, but.. he tends to want to.
- DTRD: While not necessarily an ability, Dodger has a world-specific mental illness that has some physical effects on his body (Dissociative Temporal/Realisation Disorder). In layman’s terms, he’s allergic to temporal paradoxes. He occasionally has episodes where he might remember something from an alternate timeline/reality version of himself, and will generally get a nosebleed while his brain sorts itself out. If something severe were to happen, such as physically touching a version of himself from another reality, he would have a reaction very similar to the Spiderverse glitches, and could potentially be killed by the pressure. He has special medication to keep it in check, but doesn’t always remember to take it.
Items:
A small cardboard box containing keepsakes from his childhood.
A pair of heavily modified SMGs. No extra ammo, but they’ve both got full magazines.
A vintage butterfly knife.
SAMPLES
Network: Dodger dunks on Star-Lord’s zune.
